Saxonia
Saxony is where the A. Lange & Söhne watch was born. Life during the mid-19th century in the Ore Mountains region was anything but comfortable. It was no easy task to find a decent job there, but all this changed with the arrival of Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, a small town 30 kilometres from Dresden. The Free State of Saxony is referenced in the name of this collection, revealing the art of horology in its purest form.
One characteristic of most of the collection’s models is the railway-track minute scale lining the dial’s rim, a feature drawing from history. Historical references can also be found in the slender shape of the hands, the large date window and, of course, the movement’s hand-crafted and hand-embellished component parts. These watches require absolute perfection in their every detail. The classic round shape of the Saxonia – introduced in 1994 when the founder’s great grandson Walter Lange resurrected the brand – has remained a characteristic of the line to this day. What also has not changed is the watch’s unwavering popularity.
