SuperOcean Heritage

First introduced in 2007, the SuperOcean Heritage watch underwent a makeover ten years later, receiving the new SuperOcean Heritage II appellation. In terms of shape and look, both models are based on the original, the legendary SuperOcean, which Willy Breitling unveiled in 1957, sharing a number of design features with it. Characteristic of the new watch is its striking bezel, the cursive writing at 6 or 12, water-resistance to a depth of 200 m and a Milanese-type bracelet. Its retro quality is, however, extremely subtle and by no means does it overshadow the collection’s universally contemporary look.

This best-selling Breitling range is endowed with a ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel (with the 1957 model it was possible to remove the bezel to clean the crystal). The original late-fifties chronograph was driven by a mechanical hand wound movement, today its successor comes with an automatic movement (you can choose between a chronograph version equipped with an in-house B01 movement or a calibre 13 movement based on the ETA Valjoux 7750 calibre).

Something more…

The original three-hand SuperOcean already had an automatic movement, as does its modern counterpart. What has changed, however, is the size of the case. From 38 mm it has steadily grown to 42, 44 and finally to 46 mm.

The arrow-shaped hours hand has also undergone a minor tweaking but when it comes to the word Heritage in the collection’s name, this is taken very seriously indeed, in fact, it is a matter of great reverence, as Breitling values its heritage as something extremely precious.

Collection highlight

The collection’s bestsellers are models featuring a 44 mm case. Men with a larger wrist tend to opt for a 46 mm watch. Just as popular as the chronograph is the model with three-hands. The dominant dial colours are black and blue.

Particularly elegant is the rose-gold version featuring a steel Milanese bracelet. Giving a sportier impression is the rubber strap or the environmentally-friendly-produced NATO Outerknown Econyl strap made of nylon fishing nets recovered from the bottom of the ocean.
